AMMC spreads the word about Safe Sleep habits

Safety recommendations change as research changes in various fields of study.

On Wednesday, Pat Dennis, educator for Women’s Services at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, shared some of the latest sleep safety guidelines for babies, while speaking to members of the Paragould Exchange Club.

Earlier this year AMMC was recognized by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program for its commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep.

Dennis said the hospital provides materials, including video, on the proper way to put a baby in their crib to sleep.

“Always place your baby on his or her back to sleep for naps and at night,” Dennis said. The hospital uses the motto “back to sleep,” as a reminder to parents.

Several Exchange Club members, as well as Dennis, acknowledged that a generation ago, parents were being advised to place their babies on their stomach to sleep. That is not the case anymore. Read more.
