Exchange Club honors public safety professionals

Many Merrimack Valley residents would not be alive today if not for the efforts of local police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.

Numerous drug dealers, arsonists and other criminals are behind bars because of the work of law enforcement professionals.

The Exchange Club honored dozens of these public safety providers from Lawrence, Andover and North Andover at its annual appreciation dinner Thursday night at the Hilton DoubleTree — Andover Hotel. Each honoree received a citation from the state Legislature and a commendation from their chief.

Andover police Chief Patrick Keefe recognized Officers Brian MacKenzie and Sean O’Day for performing CPR and saving the life of a 41-year-old woman who suffered an ill turn Dec. 18 of last year.
