Guzman named Steele County Peace Officer of the Year

Steele County Sheriff Lon Thiele still remembers when he was training new deputy sheriff Aaron Guzman and caught him by surprise while “ditch-diving” to get onto the opposite lane of a divided highway.

“I think those fingerprints [in the dashboard] were still there six months later,” he said, laughing.

But these days, Guzman is more likely to be the one providing training to new deputies. Guzman, a 12-year veteran of the Steele County Sheriff’s Office, was named Peace Officer of the Year Friday morning by the Steele County Exchange Club, with Thiele’s enthusiastic endorsement. Read more…
