Hanover Exchange Club’s baby photo contest benefits child abuse prevention

With a hard hat and work boots, 2-year-old Jaxson Howard looked ready to load gravel as he sat in the driver’s seat of a loader truck.

A photo that captured the moment recently won first place for the Hanover Exchange club’s baby photo contest, but Jaxson is unlike any previous winner.

The contest started 14 years ago as a way to raise money to help prevent child abuse. In all those years, no winner had been a victim of abuse or neglect.

Until this year.

“When we found out the money went to fight child abuse, it hit home for us,” said Melissa Albaugh, Jaxson’s grandmother.

On May 9, 2015, when he was two months old, Jaxson’s dad, Bryan Howard, took him to Johns Hopkins Hospital for a deep cut above his lip. Howard said the cut happened when Jaxson fell out of a swing, according to documents from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.  Read more.
