San Jose Exchange hosts 34th Annual Blue & Gold Wounded in Service Award Lunch

The Exchange Club of San Jose, CA, held its 34th Annual Blue & Gold Wounded in Service Award Lunch on March 24, 2017, at the Holiday Inn Express on N. 4th Street. Seven Santa Clara county Sheriff Deputies and Correctional Officers, one California Highway Patrol Officer, and one San Jose Police Officer received the Exchange Club’s highest tribute to firefighters and law enforcement.

SJPD Officer Michael Katherman received his award posthumously. He was fatally injured when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.  The Department received the award on his behalf.  A citizen witnessed the accident and jack knifed his truck and trailer to block traffic and render assistance. The officer died at the scene. The citizen, Dan Sullivan, received a commendation at the event and was enrolled in the Book of Golden Deeds for valiant efforts to protect and save Officer Katherman.  State Senators Jim Beal and Bob Weikowski, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor Mike Wasserman, and District Attorney Jeff Rosen were among the attendees.
