Coastal Carolina Fair’s record attendance means more help for Lowcountry charities

The Coastal Carolina Fair has ended after record-breaking attendance. Fair officials said Monday 254,877 people came through the turnstile this year.

For the Exchange Club of Charleston, which hosts the fair each year, all those visitors mean expanded opportunities to support its philanthropic work in the Lowcountry.

The fair is the Exchange Club’s main fundraiser. Last year, the organization donated roughly $800,000 to 80 charities, and is confident it will be able to do more this year.

“It comes from a lot of places,” said Gasper Marino, president of the Exhange Club of Charleston. “A percentage will come from our food vendors, a percentage will come from the rides, then it will come from the gates, everybody here is working to make money for charity.” Read more.
