Americanism Pilot Projects with Statue of Responsibility Foundation

Local Exchange Clubs Sought to Conduct Pilot Projects

It is said that the price of freedom is vigilance, and part of that vigilance is providing for the ongoing education of the nation’s public as to our country’s history of sacrifice in the name of freedom.  Exchange’s ongoing efforts for the promotion of Americanism focus on the education and enlightenment of our nation’s youth and fellow citizens that the freedom and greatness we enjoy today were hard-won and remind us all that they must be cherished and protected.

In 2010, the National Exchange club expanded its focus on Americanism through a strategic partnership alliance with The Statue of Responsibility Foundation (SORF). SORF’s mission is to erect a Statue of Responsibility monument on the West Coast to stand as a bookend to the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast. The monument will serve as a symbolic message that with great liberty there also is great responsibility. The SOR Foundation will also provide educational scholarships to deserving individuals who are committed to applying the principles of liberty, responsibility and freedom in their life’s journey.

Together, the National Exchange Club and The Statue of Responsibility Foundation share a common bond in our ideals and philosophies as both organizations strive to promote the ideals of American freedom and the responsibilities of American citizenship. The two organizations are unique in their combined approach to promoting the ideals of American freedom and responsibility while nurturing and educating American youth to take the reins as the next generation of American leaders. Together, the two organizations look to create a renewed sense of pride and patriotism as a common goal and rallying point that all Americans can stand behind and support.

In support of these shared values and goals, the two organizations look to advance several collaborative pilot projects directed to the education of both youth and adults as to relationship between liberty and responsibility. These initial pilot projects will be focused on the following areas:

School and corporate curriculum presentation of the SORF book: Responsibility 911

Responsibility 911 is an anthology where 56 notable authors each look to make a strong and diversified case for the role responsibility plays in a free society. It is intended that the chapters selected from the book will serve as the basis for study group discussion or class presentation of the relationship between freedom and responsibility in American society.

Targeted community distribution of the SORF book: Responsibility 911

Copies of the book Responsibility 911 can be presented to acknowledge community speakers and supporters, as well as key community leaders as part of local club outreach and engagement in the community.  In addition, clubs could also provide contributions of the book to their community and school libraries.

Pennies for Freedom – A demonstration of civic education in action for young people

‘Pennies for Freedom’ educational program allows school children to understand the role responsibility and liberty play in maintaining freedom.  Each student who donates to the monument will have their name displayed in the Visitor’s Center of the monument forever!  The program’s goal is to raise enough pennies that, when stacked up, will stand 300 feet tall, the same height as the Statue of Liberty and the Statue of Responsibility!  That means 72,000 pennies, or $720 dollars.  Donations can be in pennies, or any other denomination of coin or bills.

Support for local Exchange Clubs conducting pilot projects

The NEC national headquarters, in coordination with the SOR Foundation, will collaborate with local clubs in the creation of plans and materials for these pilot projects. It will also make available the book Responsibility 911 at cost for use by local clubs for local projects.

Clubs interested in conducting a pilot project should contact email admin@nationalexchangeclub.org
