It’s time for the rubber to meet the road for youngsters in Exchange Park.
The city and Waterloo Exchange Club have inked a deal for a long-planned children’s tricycle trail to be constructed in the park near the existing skatepark and little league ball fields.
“We’re so excited about this trike track which will offer a venue for ages 2 years old to 8 years old to ride their tricycles,” said club member Glenda Husome.
“They’ll have passing zones, stop signs,” she added. “We’re even trying to figure out how to get a little fake ATM so they can get money and gas up their trikes.
“We’re excited to have it out there and have it in a place where there already are families that come.”
The estimated $40,000 project has been in the works for several years and received a $15,000 grant from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association in May 2016. The club, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, raised the remaining money. Read more.
